Getting around in Qatar

Taxis

Doha now has several Taxi companies, both public and private. The Taxis are turquoise in color and differ by the color of their roofs which resemble each company. You can flag down a Taxi in the street or call +974 44588888 to make an advanced booking (which you will be charged for).

Buses

The public transport bus service is run by Mowasalat. Passengers can obtain a Fare saver smart card or Fare saver Zone Card from the Central Bus Station, Tel. +974 44366053, located in the Al Ghanim area of Doha.

Landmarks/Attractions in Qatar

Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif is one of most famous attractions in Qatar. Literally translated to the "standing market”, this shopping destination is renowned for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants serving cuisines from all over the world including counties such as China, India, Iran, Arabia, Italy, Malaysia and Morocco. Souq Waqif stood the test of time and has recently been restored to its indigenous glory. Till now, thousands of people from across the region frequent this market to purchase traditional goods such as wool, traditional thobes, jewelry, and perfumes. Souq waqif is also a prime location for tourists interested in experiencing special events such as concerts and art galleries.

 

Katara Cultural Village

The Katara Cultural Village is also one of the main landmarks in Qatar. The pearl

The Pearl Qatar is a phased mixed-use development comprising of 10 distinct and themed districts that include beachfront villas, elegant town homes, luxury apartments, exclusive penthouses, five-star hotels, marinas, and upscale retail and restaurants. It is Qatar’s first international luxury residential development that offers international investors a freehold title of ownership. Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of the Islamic Arts is  “the must-see” attraction in Qatar. The museum, which opened to the public in December of 2008, showcases a selection of Islamic artifacts that the Qatari Royal Family has been collecting for many years. This collection of artifacts in the museum include islamic items such as ancient pages of the Holy Quran that date back centuries.

City Center

Doha’s largest Mall. The much anticipated Doha City Center was opened on 15th April 2001 land marking the Qatar retail sector by becoming the leading retail and leisure destination located in the heart of Doha City. Moreover, City Center Doha features a range of family entertainment venues; 14 screen Cinema complex, Ice Rink, Ten Pin Bowling, and an indoor theme park.

 

Villagio

Villaggio Mall is located on Al Waab Street right beside the Hyatt Plaza. It is home to many shops, including many famous brands such as H& M, River Island, Zara, Zara Home, Massimo Dutti, Carrefour, Virgin Megastore, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Dior, Tiffany & Co. and Cartier, and Marks & Spencer.  In addition, Villagio offers an indoor theme park, IMAX 3D cinema, and an indoor Ice rink.

 

Land Mark

Landmark Mall is situated on the North Road and has been extensively extended over the past few years to incorporate a Carrefour outlet and many other outlets too. Land mark has a variety of shops which include Marks & Spencer, BHS, Pull & Bear, Zara, and Mango. Land mark also has a food court, a cinema, and an amusement park.

 

The Mall

The Mall, situated on the D Ring Road in Doha, was Doha’s first major Mall to be opened. Outlets include Next, Dune, Bombay, Monsoon, and Mothercare. Spinneys is the anchor supermarket, also with an in-house bakery, fish monger and butchers department. There are many coffee shops and restaurants to choose from including Chilli’s, Biella (Italian cuisine) and Starbucks. The Mall also hosts a Ceramique outlet where children can enjoy and paint a creation while parents shop around the mall.

 

Ezdan Mall

Ezdan mall is a Multilevel shopping center that includes a variety of shops and restaurants including; buffalo cafe, Popeyes, Kfc, Subway, Popcorn girl,  Nike, Sharaf DG, and carrefour. Ezdan mall is also a fun place to take your children to because of the indoor amusement park and the huge Toy store beside it.

 

The Gulf Mall

The Newest of Qatar’s malls, The Gulf mall, is located beside Ezdan mall and across the expressway from Land mark mall. The Gulf mall is expected to have over 200 stores. Some of which are Reserved, Piazza Italia, Oculis, Crazy 8, Tezenis, I AM, Calzedonia, Punt Roma, Jules Argo Tea and American clothing store Old Navy.

 

Hayatt Plaza

Hyatt Plaza is a themed shopping center in one of fastest growing areas in Doha . Hyatt Plaza features Giant Stores, Jungle Zone, Homes R Us, Milano, Nine West, Aldo, Bossini, and Highland. There is a food court containing outlets such as Burger King, KFC, Orient Express, Pizza Hut, Pizza Inn, Starbucks, Nandos.

 

Lagoona Mall

Lagoona is a mall situated in the west bay lagoon. It is home to many well-known shops such as U.S polo, Adidas, Rolex, Super-dry, Chilis, Outback Steakhouse etc. The Lagoona mall is connected to the Zig zag towers which makes it convenient to residents living in the towers.

 

Dar Al Salam

Dar al Salam mall is a mall Located in Abu Hamour. It is a very practical shopping center for near visitors because of the large supermarket and various restaurants and cafes. Shakespeare & Co., Chilis, and Magnolia Bakery are among those restaurants/cafes.

 

The Gate

Situated in the West Bay area, The Gate is on the high end side of shopping malls. You can find many prestigious and well-known shops and furniture stores in The Gate. It is also home to many delicious restaurants/cafes such as Eatopia and Farggi.

 

The Centre

The Centre is a mega-mart where you can purchase European foods, American products and many other foods from around the world. It also has an in-house bakery, butchery, fish monger,  a very large range of fruit and vegetables,  jewelry stores, and clothing shops.

 

Centerpoint Mall - Al Asmakh Mall

Al Asmakh Mall (centerpoint mall) is located in Al Sadd. This mall has a variety of shops including furniture stores and clothing shops. It offers a convenient shopping center for nearby visitors.

 

Royal Plaza

Royal Plaza is a stylish shopping mall located in Doha. It’s catch phrase offers 105 boutiques including Paris Hilton accessories, Bodyshop, lifestyle, baby shop, etc. The design and development of this mall was created using essential ingredients that would shape a facility with a sense of elegance and comfort.

 

Lulu Center

There are two Lulu Hypermarkets in Qatar: one located on the D Ring Road and the second one is located at Al Gharaffa near Landmark Mall. The Mall caters for all the family clothing, electrical goods, toys, supermarkets selling various items from around the World. As with all large Hypermarkets in Doha, there is an in-house bakery, fish monger and butchery department.
